Mockery in the Name of ‘Ceasefire’: 18 Killed in Gaza

Gaza has witnessed one of its deadliest days since the so-called ‘ceasefire’ was announced in October. On Wednesday, at least 18 Palestinians were killed in a single day due to reckless attacks by Israeli forces. Meanwhile, the evacuation of critically injured and sick patients abroad through the Rafah crossing has been abruptly suspended.

Rising Death Toll and Genocide Allegations
Israeli aggression has not stopped, even though a ceasefire brokered by the United States is supposedly in effect. Since then, 529 Palestinians have been killed. In total, the death toll has surpassed 71,803 since the war began on October 7 last year.

Human rights organizations and the United Nations have labeled Israel’s actions as ‘genocide.’ Currently, a case is underway at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Reporting from the ground, journalist Abu Azzoum in Khan Younis stated that the ceasefire exists only on paper. In reality, the people of Gaza have no relief.

New Tactics and Excuses
In the past few hours, Israeli military activity has increased across Gaza. The sound of drones hovering overhead signals potential large-scale attacks. Sadly, several children were among those killed in Wednesday’s strikes.

Specifically, 14 people died in shelling in northern Gaza. Additionally, four others were killed in an attack on tents of displaced people in the Qizan Abu Rashwan area of southern Gaza.

The Israeli military claimed these attacks were a response to a reserve officer being shot. Reportedly, this incident occurred near the ‘Yellow Line,’ the boundary of Israeli-controlled areas. However, locals allege that Israel constantly shifts this boundary to corner them further.

Patient Evacuation Blocked
Amid the intense attacks, the third phase of patient evacuation through the Rafah crossing was canceled. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said Israel revoked the coordination on Wednesday morning. According to the plan, the sick were supposed to be sent to Egypt after checkups.

Previously, only five people were allowed to leave on Monday and 16 on Tuesday. This is far below the promised 50 per day. Now, Israel accuses the World Health Organization (WHO) of failing to submit data. Yet, Gaza health officials say nearly 18,000 patients are waiting for treatment abroad, with many in critical condition.
