Epstein’s Actions May Constitute ‘Crimes Against Humanity’: UN

A group of United Nations experts has expressed deep concern regarding the actions of notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. According to them, the abuse Epstein inflicted could be classified as ‘crimes against humanity’.

Recently, the US government released millions of documents related to Epstein. In response to this, the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) issued an official statement last Tuesday.

The experts explained that a horrific picture of dehumanization, racism, and corruption has emerged from these documents. The scale of torture inflicted upon women and children is so extensive that categorizing it as an international crime is logical.

Moreover, many influential politicians, businessmen, and cultural figures worldwide are linked to this criminal ring. Therefore, the UN panel has strongly demanded a fair and impartial investigation against Epstein and his associates.

Notably, the release of these documents was mandatory under a transparency act passed last November. According to the rules, the US government was supposed to release all information within 30 days.

However, even though the specific timeframe has passed, all documents have not yet been made public. Allegations suggest that while the government holds nearly 6 million files, only 3.5 million pages have been released.

Although the names of many powerful individuals appear in the published data, very few have been brought to justice. Unfortunately, Epstein received very little punishment in the past compared to the gravity of his crimes.

Meanwhile, Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell has been sentenced to 20 years in prison. But UN experts have alleged that much information in the original documents has been intentionally redacted.

They suspect this is being done to conceal the identities of influential figures. At the same time, US lawmakers have claimed that the Trump administration concealed extra information, disregarding Congressional rules.

This tendency to hide information is further increasing the mental trauma of the victims. Experts have described this as ‘institutional deception’.

Finally, they stated that there is no scope to simply forget the ‘Epstein files’ and move on. Doing so would be an act of extreme irresponsibility towards the victims.
