In the history of cinema, James Cameron is a director who pushes the boundaries of technology every time. ‘Avatar 1’ was a story of the jungle and nature, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ was an underwater adventure. And the third installment, released on December 19, 2025, introduces us to a rugged and terrifying side of Pandora.
After a long wait, ‘Avatar 3’ or ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ was released worldwide on December 19, 2025. In Bangladesh, it was also released on the same day in major movie theaters, including Star Cineplex in the capital. Even into early 2026, the film continues to dominate IMAX and 3D screens.
‘Avatar’ means spending money like water. According to reports, the film’s production budget was approximately $350 to $400 million, which is over 4,500 crore Bangladeshi taka. An additional $150 million was spent on marketing and promotion. A large portion of this massive budget was spent on the new camera technology and VFX invented by Cameron.
All the old favorite faces are back, along with some mysterious new characters:
Sam Worthington (Jake Sully): Returns as the protector of his family.
Zoë Saldana (Neytiri): As fierce as ever.
Sigourney Weaver (Kiri): The key to a spiritual connection with Pandora.
Stephen Lang (Quaritch): His return as the villain is more terrifying than ever.
Kate Winslet (Ronal): She is important again as the leader of the sea Na’vi.
Una Chapman (Varang): The biggest attraction this time. She is the leader of the fire Na’vi, or the ‘Ash People’.
The main focus of this story is the ‘Ash People.’ This Na’vi group from Pandora is not as peaceful or nature-loving as the others. They live in a volcanic region and are comparatively more aggressive. James Cameron has shown this time that not all Na’vi are good; There are also civil wars and political complexities among them. Jake Sully and his family now have to face not only humans but also a dark force from within their own people.
James Cameron used cameras for this film that have never been seen in cinema before. The movie was primarily made with the IMAX experience in mind.
Volcanic Motion Capture: Special sensors were used to capture the Na’vi’s movements amidst flames and lava.
This time, the story is narrated not by Jake Sully, but by his younger son, Lo’ak. This gives the audience a new perspective.
Running Time: The movie’s runtime is approximately 3 hours and 17 minutes, which fully immerses the audience in the world of Pandora.
Since its release, it has grossed approximately $1.46 billion worldwide. Although it has not yet broken the records of the previous two films, it is still one of the most successful movies of 2025.
When can we expect James Cameron’s next movies?
Avatar 4: The expected release date is December 2029.
Avatar 5: The expected release date is December 2031.
Cameron has stated that the fourth installment will feature a significant time leap, where we will see the Sully family’s children grow up.
‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ is not just a movie; it’s an experience. From the beauty of Pandora to the horrors of war, everything is portrayed perfectly. For those who haven’t seen it on the big screen yet, it could be the cinematic experience of a lifetime.
