Nationwide Store Closures Announced for Upcoming Election

To ensure the upcoming national election is conducted in a fair and peaceful manner, authorities have ordered a two-day shutdown of all shops, shopping malls, and commercial establishments across the country. This decision comes as part of a comprehensive security plan coordinated by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Election Commission.

The restriction will be in effect from midnight the day before the election until midnight on election day.

  • This mandate applies to all city corporations, districts, sub-districts (Upazilas), and unions. It includes everything from major shopping centers to local village markets.

To minimize public hardship, the following essential services will remain open:

  • Pharmacies and drugstores.
  • Eateries and restaurants located specifically near hospitals.
  • Emergency ambulance services.

Why This is Happening

Law enforcement officials stated that the primary goal is to prevent overcrowding and limit the movement of unauthorized individuals during the voting period. By reducing non-essential traffic, authorities aim to create a calm environment that allows voters to reach polling stations safely and without interference.

Enforcement

Local administrations and security forces will be patrolling strictly to ensure compliance. Please be advised that anyone found violating these directives will face legal action.
