Tehran has reacted in stark terms immediately following a military warning from U.S. President Donald Trump. Within hours of Trump’s remarks, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi delivered a clear message stating that Iran’s armed forces are fully prepared and waiting with their “finger on the trigger” to counter any American aggression. Any attack would be met with an immediate and devastating response.
A renewed war of nerves has recently erupted between Washington and Tehran over anti-government protests in Iran and the subsequent crackdown. Amidst these heightened tensions, Donald Trump issued a warning to Iran on Wednesday through a lengthy post on his social media platform, ‘Truth Social’.
Iran’s Counter-Message: Preparation for Resistance by Air, Sea, and Land
Challenging Trump’s warning, the Iranian Foreign Minister wrote on social media on Wednesday evening, “Our brave soldiers are on the highest state of alert. Any act of aggression against our motherland’s air, land, or maritime borders will be met with a response that is extremely swift and powerful.”
Araghchi further noted that Iran has learned “valuable lessons” from the Israeli attack last June and previous actions by the Trump administration against Iran’s nuclear facilities. He stated, “The lessons from that past 12-day conflict have enabled us to make our defense capabilities deeper and more rapidly effective.”
‘Massive Armada’ and the Proposal for Talks
To exert psychological pressure on Iran, Trump mentioned in his post that a “Massive Armada” is approaching. He warned that this fleet is capable of achieving its mission violently and with great speed if necessary.
At the same time, he left the door open for a diplomatic solution. Trump stated, “I hope Iran will come to the negotiating table quickly to reach a fair agreement on abandoning nuclear weapons. Time is running out fast.” Referencing the U.S. strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites last June, he warned that if Tehran does not agree to a deal, the attack this time would be even more devastating.
Show of Force vs. Diplomatic Stance
The deployment of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier to the Middle East has further inflamed the situation. Adnan Hayajneh, a professor of International Relations at Qatar University, believes that sending this warship is essentially an act of “muscle flexing” by Washington. Through this, the United States intends to send a message to Iran that failure to comply will result in dire consequences.
However, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi has made it clear that negotiations at gunpoint are not possible. He told the media, “Threats and negotiations cannot coexist. Iran has always been in favor of a respectful and coercion-free fair nuclear agreement.”
Diplomatic Efforts
Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts are underway behind the scenes to avert a conflict. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has indicated that Iran may be willing to return to negotiations on the nuclear issue. Additionally, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty is maintaining contact with both sides in an effort to de-escalate tensions.
